An implantable collamer lens (ICL) is built to stay in the eye for decades. It does not “expire” on a five-year clock like a contact lens. Many patients keep the same EVO ICL for 10–20+ years with stable vision. It is not welded in: a surgeon can remove or replace it if the prescription changes, a cataract develops later in life, or the vault is wrong. That reversibility is the point of ICL versus LASIK.

  • Skipping follow-up, so pressure or endothelial cell health is not watched

LASIK is a one-way reshape of the cornea; the effect is long-lasting but you cannot put tissue back. ICL adds a lens that can be explanted. For high minus powers and thin corneas, that is why ICL is often the safer long game. Neither procedure stops reading glasses in the 40s.
